I mean think about it, Stella. If Einstein had mathematically proven god’s existence, wouldn’t people kind of remember him for that? As a former creationist, I used to quote-mine Einstein’s metaphorical use of the word ‘god’ to misrepresent Einstein’s position on faith. I wasn’t even aware that I was wrong about this, as I was simply repeating what others had said. But I have never heard of Einstein’s mathematical proof of god until now.

Why not? Because this myth originated years after I had already de-converted. It comes from one of those e-mail chain mailings that old people send to everybody they’ve ever met. This urban legend first appeared in 2004. The exact same story was also found circulating 5 years earlier, but without the freshly added Einstein angle. This is just a few plausible steps from believing that a ‘huge kesh out’ will come your way from a Nigerian Prince.

I think this is a discrepancy worthy of rational discussion.
